In a book of mine i saw this line" The different buildings at different heights are ^^^".

I feel the 'heights' here is used incorrectly, and it should be corrected to 'height'.

Am I right?

You have highlighted a good question.
It depends on the reference made, while using it.
The term, 'height' means, 'extent or distance upward'.
In your book, the sentence wanted to describe height of each individual building. With each one of them has its own height.
Interestingly, most medical record has height to record how tall a person is. However, you know, 'height' is different from, 'tall'.

thank you very much for your helping reply.
frankly speaking,to me plural seems easy at the beginning in english study, but the more i learned the more difficult i realize it is.
now there are two things i feel extremely confusing.
one is when a 'the' should be placed before a noun';the other is plural.

You are referring to DEFINITE and INFINITE article.
THE is the DEFINITE article.
A is the INFINITE article.
As a guideline, THE is used to point to one specifically defined object or subject for reference.
A is used to point but any one without specifically to defined object or subject for reference.
Example, 'The car is blue', means, 'referring to a specific car whose colour is blue'.
Example, 'A car is blue', means, 'referring to not in specific car whose colour is blue'.
At times, the article may not be used.
Example, 'Car ferries him', or' Cars ferried them'.
Hope you could refer to English grammar for better explanations.
