A poor excuse with only a slight ring of truth to it. Why are Chinese people always apologizing for their poor English? Because they are not taught properly, that's why. They are not taught to make their words flow together. They are not taught flaps & taps. They are not taught glottal stops. They are not taught intonation. They are not taught the natural order of language acquisition (listening, speaking, reading, writing). Instead, they are taught reading/writing, listening, speaking. When you learn the two most difficult aspects of language (reading/writing) first, the two easiest aspects (listening/speaking) become extremely difficult to learn and master.

Why are Chinese people always apologizing for their poor English? Because it IS poor. Plain and simple. Their English is poor because they were taught poor English.
Stupid people are like Glowsticks. You want to snap them in half and shake the crap out of them until they see the light.
I love sarcasm. It's like punching someone in the head ... only with words

in addition, there is an element of perfection being expected.
some of my former students said they were afraid to speak as they were punished by previous teachers for any mistakes they made, so then they did not try.

making mistakes is all part of learning a language, as you learn not to do it again.

I have never met any Chinese apologizing for their 'bad English', because that would make them lose face. However, they have no qualms laughing about any mistakes I make in their language.

Sure looks like it, as we both know that Chinese people do not apologize since it makes them 'lose face'.
