The death of a 29-year-old man, who was killed during a police raid that targeted the customers of a "foot spa" in a Beijing neighborhood on Saturday, has prompted the police to enhance the crackdown on sex workers.

However, despite government efforts against sex work in hotels, karaoke clubs, hair salons or massage parlors, the trade seems to be still thriving. For now, sex work is an administrative offense in China. Workers and clients can face up to 15 days of detention and a fine up to 5,000 yuan ($825).

Facing the reality that the industry is unlikely to ever be eradicated, together with the social problems arising from a lack of regulation, some sociologists and lawyers advocate legalizing sex work to protect vulnerable women from sexually transmitted diseases and violence. Do you think it’s time prostitution is brought into the light as a legalized profession?

Hello Western NGO worker,

Individuals that have no ethical concern about fostering an environment that traps females into the most torturous occupation - prostitution - are genetic psychopaths.

To get rid of crime in China, test everyone for psychopathology and then sterilize them.  No more criminals will then be born.  Problem solved.

If you learn about Chines history, you will understand that prostitution has no chance to be legalized. Banning prostitution is actually to protect women's rights other than deprive their rights.

Prostitution is what all kinds of work is about, there is no difference selling your body for satisfying someones needs of pleasure making clothes by seewing than making someone ejakulate by rubbing. Salaryslavery is prostitution no matter what demands you satisfy.
