"China has known its sovereignty for a thousand years..."

So what did all of this "knowing" do to stop several European powers encroach on its territory ( e.g. Macau and Hong Kong ) and countries such as Japan, Russia, France, Germany, England embarrass and humiliate the motherland ? "Knowing this sovereignty" proved to be merely empty words.

Low-tide if the island never submerges,  If the island is submerged at high-tide it does not count ...

Low-tide elevations are always submerged at high tide, or they won't be called "low tide elevations".  Your ignorance shows you are probably Ng Tran.  China's low-tide elevations do have their own sovereign territorial seas when lighthouses are built on them.

That is legit.

Your claim of the Spratly Islands based on Tomas Cloma having discovered them in 1956 is illegit.

Really??  low-tide is lower then high-tide??  Thank's for the info.  Can you help me use the bathroom after this?

The low-tide mark is used to mark the shoreline for the 12 mile draw.  But if the island is submerged at high-tide,  IT'S NOT A ISLAND.

If you cannot read the UNCLOS, don't pretend to debate using it as the law of the sea.  The UNCLOS says a country can draw baselines from low-tide elevations (which by definition are submerged under high tides) if it has built lighthouses on them.  By the same rule, it acknowledges that low tide elevations are sovereign territories, on which one may build lighthouses, which in turn legally creates a 12-mile territorial sea around it.  This is legitimate.

What is illegitimate is claiming the Spratly Islands on the basis of the fairy tale that Tomas Cloma "discovered" these islands in 1956.

That is what is incredible.

With GPS chart plotters why would they build lighthouses? Most were decommissioned 50 years ago.
Only a small private vessel without any electronics on board would have any use for a lighthouse and they would be crazy to be out there without them GPS).

CHINA'S ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS - WELCOME TO THE SOUTH CHINA SEA!!!

Who needs GPS to sail the South China Sea?  GPS is useless in overcast, cloudy, stormy seas, but a pair of lighthouses are a life saver to any sailor worth his salt.  The compass beats the GPS in navigating through a typhoon, because the compass works under all conditions, while the GPS is like a fair-weather friend.  To the real sailors of the South China Sea, the pair of lighthouses China has built is a lifeline and safety net for them at all times.  Another way of China showing her hospitality to those seeking innocent passage through the South China Sea.  China has won, whatever they do, because it has done what any civilized country would do on its sovereign territory.  China will be building even more lighthouses until the South China Sea shimmers with the light of its civility from nightfall to early dawn.
