"Remember that linguistically, the dialect group of the Teochews is Chaoshan."

This does not make much sense at all.

Chaoshan is the name of an administrative region in China and cannot be equated with any language or dialect that the Teochew people, who can be found all over the world, speak.

The Teochew language or dialect, the Teochew people, and the place in China called Chaoshan are three different things.

It makes as much sense to say:

"Remember that linguistically, the dialect group of African-Americans is New York."
