Using is important.

We have less opportunity to use English. Some people even hate to hear foreign language in life. They will say "you are too bumbling".

Hongkongese are not good at Mandarin. Even some well-educated persons can hardly express themselves clearly in Mandarin.

Wide comparison.

Hong Kong and mainland?

Hong Kong is practically the size of a city!  The mainland includes Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, the countryside, etc. Were you referring to the mainland in t\general or did you have a particular location in mind for comparison?

Hong Kong English

As a wealthy former British colony, Hong Kong has many advantages over the mainland in terms of learning English. But. the gap will close, I feel.

The other advantage Hong Kong has is that the English spoken there is heavily influenced by contact with the UK; and Hong Kongers therefore speak without the noticeably heavy American accent that afflicts mainland speakers of English.

Those specializing in English quite fluent.

I've found that many generally, mainland  university graduates whose specialization is English are fluent in English.  With the exception of a few, however, I've found that for those who haven't had a chance to enter university or college, or for whom English is not their major, all their years of English study in middle school was a complete waste of time and money.
