Note to other people who post photos:
This is an interesting series of pictures, showing a past time ...

good point!
We all know China has experienced great change in the past 30 years, but for young kids of China or foreigners, they have little image of that time and don't have strong feelings about the change. If there are pictures of both past and nowadays, it would be amazing!

We all know China has experienced great change in the past 30 years, but for young kid ...

Actually much of the Western World has already moved forward. I have many friends who lived during that time span and their feelings are all mixed emotions. These friends are all Uni educated (some with PHD's) with assigned educational duties. many went straight out of graduation and straight into leading roles into Professor tenure where they stayed until retirement.
They find solace with classmates they did what was best for them and their growing families under the circumstances. In private they admit the times were very difficult and stressful trying to put food on the table with enough living space with some still living in University/State housing which they do not own.

Very few of this group numbering in the thirties are avid followers of state. Most are just happy they were able to afford the put their own one or two children through Uni themselves.

Many became MD's--others used their PHD to move further in research and those many have immigrated overseas--primarily because there children studied in Aust--USA--Canada and stayed (along with the excellent health care for advanced age).

There is only one child (of approximately 65) who advanced through the State level and is posted to various Chinese Consulate in various countries and is on the way to the next assignment and tour in the US. This is a great person who never talks about the job and is friendly to all. Two have made their way through the computer and communication industry reaching high levels of management making salaries their parents could not imagine when they were the saME AGE..

In summation the growth achieved at this point can only be admired-- how ever with all growth there is a heavy price to pay in both public and private lives. Material possessions have been the pinnacle of success (just the 70's and 90"s in the West) while the family life and health has suffered since one or both parents worked 10 hours a day--- 6 days a week to pay for the life style upgrades.

This a longer response than planned but all facts must be weighed in their own values when making comparisons....it is not all black and white--most is gray.
