VIETNAM SHOULD TAKE A BROAD AND LONG VIEW OF ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH CHINA, AND UNDERSTAND THAT ITS ROLE AS A TOTALLY INDEPENDENT STATE IS LESS SECURE AND LESS PROFITABLE THAN ITS ROLE AS A MUTUALLY INTERDEPENDENT STATE WITH CHINA.

What should a hand do to be strong and productive, but take up its role as a hand for the body, in return receiving the benefits of its constant nurture, protection and care, sharing its success, and avoiding common dangers and harm.

Some degree of thinking along the lines of the European Common Market, and the European Union, but not necessarily merging sovereignty, is the best solution to the present dilemma of how Vietnam can survive and prosper, instead of being bogged down by border conflicts ad nauseam.
