THE 3 TRILLION DOLLAR QUESTION - IS CHINA REALLY MUCH WEAKER THAN IT APPEARS?
You have a point about China's new face in Southeast Asia, and it is not pretty. But the real problem is that making faces only betrays one's muscular weakness, especially when China's weakness is repeatedly demonstrated to the world by Japanese F15's chasing away Chinese twin propeller coast guard patrols which never dared fly over Diaoyudao. It is like a paper tiger. People are afraid to touch it initially, but after a while, would really want to poke a hole in its eyes, just to show how fearless they are, and how the appearance of being a tiger is all fake. Deng has a smarter approach, but his successors did not live through the era of China's humiliation under the boots of foreign occupiers of Shanghai and Tientsin, or the looting and burning of the Summer Palace, and therefore tend to believe more in the Boxer Rebellion, that somehow Chinese kungfu experts are able to avoid bullets (in reality the foreigners shooting at them were initially merely trying to scare them off, and when they shot in earnest, they were also poor shots, but eventually, they felled scores of Boxers).
Of course, we may be underestimating the fighting power of the Chinese navy and air force. Who knows, they may be far more capable than the world thinks. At any rate, push has come to shove, and the prospect of war has moved from paper to the field. All it takes now is an intentional false flag event or a miscalculation, and you have a 3 trillion dollar detonation of capital flight overnight. Tempting, to say the least, for those who stand to gain the most.
