The thrid  one is "月"( yuè). The basic meaning is moon in English and the next meaning is month. The following is the changing process of this character pattern.

Chinese is a tonal language.

There is only Mandarin has four tones in the languages of world, Chinese belongs of Sino-Tibetan, compared with Britain, France and other Indo-European languages, the most prominent characteristic of Mandarin speech system is:

Difference Tones Distinguish Significances.

The same syllable with difference tones then its means different significances, and its has corresponding Chinese characters for itself. This is the unique of Chinese, and it is different from other languages​​.

For example, the easiest Chinese character “the syllable is “yi”,  when with 4 different tones, it brings us 4 different semantics:

syllables   Character    English  

Yī            one

Yí            aunt

Yǐ            chair

Yì            meaning
