The only car made in Finland is Mercedes-Benz B class. Mercedes of course is not a Finnish company. There are also Finnish companies making military vehicles for several armies in Europe and busses.

Volkswagen with VW, Scania and Man brands is the biggest truck maker in the world. I have never seen a Chinese car outside China. I'm sure they exist but their marketshare is peanuts.

Great Wall is a rising star both in and out of China. They do well in the SUV, trucks and vans segment where Chinese brands dominate the domestic market. German brands do well in China because they cater to the high-end luxury segment of the passenger car market. This gives the impression that Chinese brands can't compete against foreign brands which is completely  inaccurate because the auto market is highly segmented. Foreign brands hardly exists in the MPV, trucks, vans, buses market in China because buyers look only at their utility not their brand value when buying those vehicles. And it is in this market segment that Chinese brands are conquering world markets.

To be succesful in the car business demands so much investment that it is impossible for Chinese companies to compete. For example the Volkswagen Group is planning to invest 86 billion euros in the next 5 years.

Almost all Chinese cars do not meet the safety and environmental standards required in Europe and US. They might have some succes in the cheap car segment. Which one would you like to drive, Great Wall SUV or Audi Q7 or BMW X6?

That was my point. The high-end luxury segment is a tough nut to crack. So Chinese manufacturers have concentrated either on the low-end by competing on price or the utility segment where brand value is not as important. Three countries dominate the global auto industry: U.S.A., Germany and Japan. The rest are niche players: Italian brands cater to sports-car buyers, U.K. brands target the ultra-rich, etc. As a late entrant, China needs to find its niche or else enter an emerging industry such as electric vehicles which is expected to take off in the next 10 years. This new industry is where Chinese brands can come up with their own designs and innovations to build their brand and reputation for the global market. That's a better strategy than just doing copycat designs and reverse-engineering technology from leading brands.

To build credible car brand from zero will take a lot of money. That applies to all Chinese brands except Lenovo.

The chopsticks can stay in the pot.

What if you hip a bump they might fall out onto the car floor
