Consumers buy brands to identify with the lifestyle associated with the brand. It's called marketing. Why do few Chinese brands make it to the global market? Because foreign consumers don't want to identify with the lifestyle associated with Chinese brands. So that means China has to improve the standard of living and quality of life of its citizens first before foreign consumers would want to identify with Chinese lifestyles as represented by Chinese brands. How Chinese brands foster urban lifestyles unique to China that would appeal to Chinese consumers first would determine whether Chinese brands would succeed outside of China.

For example, Brazil has several well-known swimwear brands that appeal to the world because of its sensual lifestyle. China has to define its own urban lifestyle based on its own East Asian culture and not try to imitate or copy Western lifestyles as represented by Western brands. Then and only then would Chinese brands become globally accepted.

Chinese companies copy and follow they do not lead and innovate. Chinese companies make bulk and compete with price instead of quality.

Chinese companies can be succesful following this model but they won't be world known brand names.

You get what you pay for, you buy cheap you get cheap, I am willing to pay more for quality and do. The Japanese used to be where China is now, but they concentrated on quality and not price. It took a couple of decades of hard work but they succeeded. South Korea did the same thing and their products keep improving to their benefit.

Because China is currently a factory for transnational US-western-based brands. Because China has not been as imperialistic as aforementioned. Because Chinese brands have a huge (potential, at least) market in China and nearby Asian countries, with populations exceeding all of Europe and N.America?
