I know there is a cultural diffrence, but in Australia the teacher would lose their job and be taken away by the police

No, it doesn't. 'Till' is just another lazy Americanism corrupting a great language. Till, (noun) a place to hold cash for easy access e.g. a shop's cash  register. Till (verb) a farming process prior to planting. The only correct way to abbreviate 'until' is 'til.
