TOKYO - Japan and the United States are exploring the possibility of Tokyo acquiring offensive weapons that would allow Japan to project power far beyond its borders, Japanese officials said, a move that would likely infuriate China.

The US is using the idea of "not riling China" to withhold full offensive armaments from Japan (as if the US cares for Chinese feelings, hahaha!). All this while, I've had a suspicion that Japan's ultimate target is the US, and NOT China or Korea. It is the US that had caused massive destruction of Japanese cities through fire bombing and the two atomic bombs. Those are frankly war crimes, for they were targeted at civilians. And the Japanese I knew have never forgotten that, despite their smiles and hugs for Americans. On the other hand, it would serve US interest if they could get Japan and China to destroy each other. Then Uncle Sam would appear at the final moment to "save" the two wrecked nations and impose its "paternalistic colonialism" in Asia once again.

Prediction: the US would give Japan some offensive weapons, but not at the risk of letting such weapons turned against the US mainland. This would take some fancy calibration, both technologically and politically. Meanwhile, the US hope to extract huge concessions from China for not arming Japan to the hilt, and from Japan for arming it with weapons of highly exaggerated lethality.

China should take it easy and simply continue to upgrade its own defense. That is the common sense reply to Japan-US machinations.
