CHINA LOST THE NAVAL BATTLE OF THE YELLOW SEA near the mouth of the Yalu River, despite having steel-plated battleships that were superior to and larger than the Japanese ships, because the ammunition for its ships had been replaced with fake shells that have concrete instead of gunpowder inside the shells, and because the number of effective shells were also seriously reduced.  This crime of corruption was directly responsible for the defeat of the Chinese navy at that sea battle.  But the subsequent Japanese attacks on Lushun naval base and Weihaiwei naval base were due to the further betrayal of the patriotic forces stationed there by the land army commanded by Li Hongzhang, which abandoned their defensive posts guarding the landward side of these bases, allowing the Japanese to capture these bases from land, rather than by sea.  Corruption made China lose its arms and its legs to Japanese surgical strikes, and forced the country become an invalid in the family of sovereign states, earning it the insult of being the Sick Man of Asia.

I thought it's called the Chinese Army Navy, not the Chinese Navy
