Are Chinese disposable chopsticks safe? [Copy link] 中文

Are Chinese chopsticks made on the mainland and supplied to Taiwan any different from those disposable ones found in mainland? In Taiwan such chopsticks are reported to contain sulphur dioxide and to quickly turn water yellow. Sulphur dioxide harms breathing and can cause Asthma. There has been a significant rise in this illness in Taiwan in recent years. Have we got to the stage that we need to bring our own chopsticks to restaurants?

True. People in china don't seem to care about the chop sticks. Been in China for 2 weeks one we have heard nothing of this.

Don't they put the chopsticks in sterilizers?
actually we don't use disposable chopsticks in many region
we use this

If there are fears about using certain eating utensils, then by all means, take your own.  I have done this several times.  I just don't always trust restaurants to provide clean and sanitary chopsticks.
