Eradicating poverty - China dream

I recently read about China's reiteration on its national dream in eradicating poverty. This is a common battle cry amongst all nations, from 3rd world to developed countries.

In my humble opinion, devising a 'blanket' or 'one-size-fits-all' approach will not work due to the reasons below (non-exhaustive):-

1. China's sheer size in land mass and distinctly unique provinces makes it impossible to absorb a generic policy in eliminating poverty. 没有两个雪花是相同的.

2. To eliminate poverty China need to seek, uncover and understand the ROOT of poverty in each provinces. Once these poverty ROOTS in each provinces are uncovered, then curb or cull them depending on the severity. 剁草采根 (adapted from one of my favorite Hong Kong film 算死草).

3. My dad shared with me one proverb which has guided me throughout my life. "Do not give the person the fish, but teach them how to fish".
不要给学生的鱼。 教他如何为自己钓鱼. Though it is the government's duty to ensure the people's welfare are taken care of at the basic level, it is in turn the people's duty to continuously improve themselves should they want a better/luxurious life. If everything was provided to these able bodied and minded adults, then how will they ever discover their own talents, strengths, weaknesses, creativity, adaptability and survival instincts?

4. Dr. Sun Yat Sen's 'Three Peoples Principle' 三民主义 is an ideology which I hold dear too. I have lived in Australia and now USA where these countries are renowned for its welfare and social security benefits. Having said that, there is no perfect country as administrators/governors being humans are prone to human flaws. We can only hope that the rule of law, common sense and humane values guide our everyday living.
三民主义 encourages a nation where its people display loyalty to its Motherland, embrace democracy as freedom is every person's birth right and last but not least every citizen's basic welfare is well provided for.

5. Is a state of poverty a factor of nurture or nature? Inherited or self-created?
Surroundings or mindset? Acceptance or refusal? Choice or circumstances? There is no one reason which can explain this pandemic. I have seen those that live in utter poverty out of circumstances. I have also seen some that choose to live in poverty due to lack of proper guidance or simply admitting defeat.

6. Education is the key to nurturing the right mindset, spirit, adaptability and survival instincts in preventing this disease called 'poverty' from rearing its ugly head. There are countless of rags-to-riches stories in China like Stephen Chow Sing Chi. Not all of us may have had a good beginning, but we can ALWAYS create a fantastic ending.

7. Equip each province/community with a unique set of skill sets relevant to the people's talents, surroundings, intellectual and emotional quotients (IQ and EQ) and interest. Yes, interest and passion is important and not just doing a job to make ends meet. The former will serve as a fuel that drives the person to excel and in turn contribute better to the community and nation. The brain and heart need to be in agreement.
8. Create a virtuous cycle. Once the government is able to identify and cull the root cause of poverty in each province and successfully equip the community to sustain themselves, please teach the community in perpetuating the good efforts. Enable them to co-create and manage a virtuous cycle for the next generation to come. In this way, hopefully poverty will be eradicated once and for all.

I truly believe the new China dream can be achieved with patriotism, freedom and humanity as the guiding principles.

Poverty has its causes and reasons. Most important is the new policy and grants should do the best. Accountability, tracibility, responsibility, duty and transparency must be present to ensure no abuse. Difficult but must be done!

Easier said than done .. people would go the same way so long as it lead to success no matter how bad time it is or what you mentioned in the novel :different landscape and environment conditions ..

I have studied the same subject, but about Brazil. I liked the way you approach inequalities.

Reduce poverty, mend and protect the environment, achieve world peace ...... all dreams that must be maintained as aims, even though they will never be achieved. Perhaps the way forward is to concentrate on smaller aims that are achievable; reducing corruption, improving education, improving communications, improving the air and water and increasing food supplies?  So much to do and so little time.
