Weed drama in Tai’An

Popularity 4Viewed 1970 times 2014-5-19 11:34 |Personal category:Lifestyle|System category:Life| weed, funny

Well, weed, hemp, ganja, dagga, marijuana, collie, grass…or whatever you call it is a very illegal plant in China or almost everywhere you might go… in China it is almost unheard of.

Me and my 20 partners were jogging up Mount Taishan and when we got back to the foot of the mountain in Tai’an I noticed a row of weed growing along the road, the herb was green, healthy and starched about 40 meters or longer.

I instantly screamed and gasped and soon, people were on the herb like it was an elixir; uprooting it, some chewing it, some taking selfies with it and the crowd swelled considerably.

Arguments burst out: Some doubted it, some spoke in scientific names, some just made funny noises – I mean we were a group of 20 from over 10 different countries and representing all continents, folks reacted uniquely.

It is not a natural herb; someone planted it or maybe disposed of weed seeds there. That person is a genius and what a good way to hide something in plain sight. Thousands of people pass the road, including the police but …it took me...

Well, that caused a bit of an issue for me too, people questioned how I knew the plant and accused me of being a hemp smoker.

I was hard pressed…but I do not smoke, not even tobacco, nor drink, not even sodas….the whole weed thing has roots in my country Malawi, which has one of the strongest weed varieties dubbed ‘Malawi Gold.’

When I was a journalist for a local paper there, I once investigated hemp farming and went to a weed farm…the story was never published because my editor said the police would force me to reveal the people I interviewed and the farm I visited.

So…that explains how I know weed every time I meet him. It was funny that in the same park, there were Chinese girls with baseball bats with the famous weed leaf on the front…later I wondered if maybe they might be the owners…but they were too innocent.

In China, someone told me, weed is so rare that some people can smoke it at the police station and the police have no idea what it is.

I will be watching you guys; will try to see who will rush to Taishan after reading this…the question in my mind, however is, who sowed the weed there?

I heard from different sources that weed are grown in northern Shanxxi and local farmers smoke them in pipes. Don't know if they are cultivated or just grown wild.

I have never seen weed plants in my life. But it did scare me when i visited Nepal. So many people uses marijuana and so many young Chinese couldn't resist the temptation of marijuana, some seemed to have addicted to it and simply rented a hotel and stayed there...

That country also has a public holiday named " marijuana day". In that day, people are allowed to use marijuana in public.

I had a Nepali friend here, he mentioned how they would make a campfire with weed and inhale it... hahaha..
I agree with MissBarbara, in China it's not as uncommon as you think!

There are some urban legends similar to what you wrote, that weed is growing everywhere in Western China, but you found it in Taishan and say it must be planted by someone... hmm...

Regarding to your question I can only say: Not me!

Even when someone says I am black i correct them, i show them my skin and they change their statement... most of what 'blacks' especially from the US are proud of, i detest..  so no basketball...strictly no rap...

I hated rap as a teenager, still don't enjoy it much but I'm more open to it. There is a culture behind it. But from that stand point most music genres are "started" by black people.

Calling people colours is a weird idea, but that's what people do. I haven't seen a "yellow" Chinese person and Michael Jackson is white, not me.
