(Global Times) At noon local time on Sunday, protesters clashed with National Guards soldiers in downtown Los Angeles, California. A Chinese journalist at the scene was struck in the left leg by a rubber bullet, resulting in swelling and bruising, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Xinhua reporters at the scene observed that during the conflict, National Guard soldiers fired tear gas and rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the protesters. However, the number of protesters continued to grow, increasing from dozens initially to over 200. The protesters, agitated, loudly condemned the National Guard and police. Some threw water bottles and stones at the National Guard, while others picked up tear gas canisters and hurled them back.
A Xinhua journalist covering the event was hit in the arm by a tear gas canister, and a photojournalist was struck in the left leg by a rubber bullet, resulting in swelling and bruising.
The California National Guard 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) "has deployed approximately 300 soldiers to 3 separate locations in the greater Los Angeles area," the US Northern Command posted on X.
Governor Gavin Newsom's office reported on Sunday that about 300 of the promised 2,000 national guardsmen had deployed in the LA area, The Guardian said.
