In Chinese 事(shi, the forth tone)is a common word which means ‘thing’ as a noun or ‘do’ as a verb.   Why?  The 口 of 事 is ‘mouth’ which represents ‘a man’ or ‘an animal’.  The lower part is a horizon 山-like thing that is your 'hand‘.  The remain component of 事 seems like a tool for hunting with a sharp end at the bottom. So the whole picture of 事 tells me: One hand holds a nice weapon to hunt a creature.
Today,I 'you suo shi shi‘(有所事事):  I  have something to do.

As teachers we often say to work hard for the cause(事业) of education. How do you think of 业 judging from the appearance?业(ye, the fourth tone.) The bottom line seems like the ground on which there are crops growing with leaves beside.  You may plant crops or trees in the field to form a landscape of 业.  It would be a great achievement that is the body language of the special Chinese character.
