Investigation findings from an independent news website Greyzone show that the government of the United States has been supporting politically and financially Uygur separatist movements disguised as advocating human rights in China's Xinjiang.
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a US foundation founded to "support democracy in other countries" financed by the US government, was said in the piece, in fact, to support the separatist movements.
According to a journalistic investigation piece published on the Greyzone website in late March, a Washington-based organization called the Uygur American Association (UAA) has been engaging with the US government in terms of the Uygur separatist movements.
According to the US-based Greyzone, the UAA is affiliated with the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) which some Western countries have described it as the "leading voice for Uygur interests and human rights." WUC had played a central role in how some Western countries interpreted Chinese policy in Xinjiang.
However, the news website pointed out that its previous reports have revealed that the WUC is actually a "network of exiled Uyghur separatists" who have stated their intention of bringing about the "fall of China" and create a state called "East Turkestan" in Xinjiang.
The multimedia piece said that the WUC has been working closely with US and some Western governments in recent years as well as individuals such as Adrian Zenz, doubling down "their New Cold War against China, advocating for Chinese policy in Xinjiang to be labeled 'genocide,' along with sanctions and boycott."
The investigative piece said that UAA's Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP), launched in 2004, is facilitated and largely funded by the NED, providing more than one million US dollars during the three-year period since 2016 alone.
"The National Endowment for Democracy has been exceptionally supportive of UAA," the former UAA President Nury Turkel had said in 2006 cited by the article, "providing us with invaluable guidance and assistance" and "essential funding." (source: CGTN)

You are a very confused pathetic lost soul. China is not the same as US. Obviously in trying to pin US' atrocious history to China you pretended to forget that US lied to the entire world so that it can bomb Iraq into the oblivion displacing and impoverishing millions of people while no similar atrocious act came from China. In essence you are defending lies not morality. Wonder what type of society brought you up as a person.
'topple Chinese govt'? The US and its allies must be daydreaming! They must be dreaming of those colonial days when they forced the weak Qing Emperor to submit to their demands! The gunboat diplomacy of the past worked, but to the cotton diplomacy of today will definitely fail. The China of today is no pushover. This Xinjiang cotton saga is but a minor irritant to the Chinese govt, and will blow away sooner or later. The Chinese govt has grander plans to pursue and will not be mired in this silly saga for long!
"China can rescue the Uighurs by helping them to discover and understanding their Chinese identity" That makes as much sense as Native American Indians being "rescued" by their own government "helping them to discover and understand" their "American" identity.
At core is China's ethnic unity and prosperity. How China designs, fosters and gel together her 56 ethnicity realtionship is vital to China. While US tries to sacricifce the Uighurs for its own interests, China can rescue the Uighurs by helping them to discover and understanding their Chinese identity. US wants to turn the Uighurs into armed military for its own interest. There is no doubt about that. Mujahideens were created to thwart then's USSR's entrance into Afghanistan in an attempt to defend then's communist government in Afghanistan. Similarly in US armed Iraq to fight Iran in a 10 years war. Both Afghanistan and Iraq now faces deplorable social displacements, religious extremism and unceasing civil wars. Of course going back to US history the same chaos were created amongst Native Americans and they were subsequently annihilated. Thus it is important that Asians, Europeans and Russians do not fall for US' hegemonic schemes.
It is a question how China strengthens and energizes its internal relationship strength, including getting the Chinese on Taiwan island home and then spread its relationship strength outwards by fostering stronger and stable relationships with its neighbors. This will include US even though US is expected to try to fail China.
