All countries should have the same policy for immigrants - learn the local language as a requirement ...

I started to learn Spanish many years ago, and felt that it was the right thing to do even holidaying at that stage in Spanish territories. Now I have a house there its great and I don't feel I am just an outsider, but similar to what Wisdom Pong said many Brit's there can't and don't bother with the language.

But I wouldn't be as rude as him putting it the way he did

They won't dare!

Most of the punks that run HK today see themself more 'Anglish' than Chinese.
They proudly were their Union Jack shirt, and spit on nainlander's faces.

Good on you for learning Spanish! I suppose you know Chinese too. You can be at home anywhere you go with that kind of attitude and approach.
Remember, if you want to live in Oz, you need to learn the local lingo too. Since you already know English, you will find it easy to pick it up.
