One more NATO step toward Russia to change European security structure - Putin's spokesman

NATO’s further enlargement and “one more step towards the Russian border” will cause “the entire European security architecture to be overhauled”, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the TVC television channel’s “Pravo Znat” (The Right to Know) programme to be aired on Saturday evening, April 19, Itar-Tass reports.

He said that NATO’s further enlargement would pose a serious threat to Russia because “NATO cannot stop being a military organisation” and “Russia will have to take measures to ensure its own security”.
Speaking about Ukraine’s possible admission to the alliance, Pskov said that “the military-political future of this country, we hope, will not envision such membership for the time being”.
No obstacles to normalizing Russian-West relations - President Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday he currently saw no obstacles to bringing relations between Moscow and the West back to normal. The Russian president, who appeared on the Channel Rossiya-1 TV show, was asked by its host Sergey Brilev about whether the relations between Russia and the West, which sank to record lows amid the ongoing political crisis in Ukraine, can improve by the end of the year.
"It depends on our partners," Putin replied. "I think that currently there is nothing to prevent us from normalizing (the relations) and (returning to) normal cooperation," he continued, RIA reports.
The political crisis in Ukraine, reunification of Crimea with Russia and pro-federalization protests in the southeast of the country triggered the most serious geopolitical showdown between Russia and the West since the end of the Cold War.
Russian diplomats have repeatedly said the United States are unwilling to make a correct assessment of the situation in Ukraine and are seeking to impose its distorted view of events on other international players.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has earlier condemned as hypocrisy attempts by the West to justify violent acts during pro-European rallies in Ukraine earlier this year, at the same time accusing pro-federalization protesters in the east of terrorism.
Russian President Putin urges Europe to jointly aid Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday called on all European states concerned to join efforts to keep the Ukrainian economy afloat.
"We do not want to undermine the Ukrainian economy or to call the reliability of [gas] transits to Europe into question. That's why we call on all European states, all countries interested in supporting the Ukrainian economy to join the process of helping Ukraine and to flesh out measures to finance the budget," the president, who appeared on the Vesti v Subbotu (Vesti on Saturday) TV show, told its host Sergey Brilev.
"We cannot place the whole burden of sustaining [the economy] of a country with 45 million [inhabitants] solely on the Russian budget and Russian taxpayers," he said.
In the letter to 18 mostly Eastern European leaders, released last week by the Kremlin, Putin voiced concerns over Ukraine's debt crisis that might disrupt Russian gas supplies to Europe.
He also called for urgent consultations at the ministerial level in order to work out concerted actions to stabilize Ukraine's economy.
Ukraine currently owes Russia $2.2 billion for gas supplies, and its gas debt may balloon to $5-$6 billion by the end of the year.

Well I'm sure intelligence services were involved from all sides to some degree. I think that game is quite irrelevant though. What matters is that Russia has shown ambitions that needs to be contained.
