Despite having been put through the wringer of superpower geopolitics, all for the sake of a few islands whose oil reserves are literally just a drop in the bucket for China, or even for the Philippines, China has decided after full deliberation, to forget and forgive, and focus instead on its humanitarian duties to the sick, homeless and starving millions left behind by the devilishly unusual storm called Haiyan internationally, but called Yolanda, by the Filipino people.
Without much fanfare, and very obviously ignored by the British and ex-colonial media, 100 Chinese physicians and 200 Chinese nurses and paramedics rolled up their sleeves to save as many Filipinos as they can, quietly and competently. China's Peace Ark has 300 beds, of which 20 are intensive care, with a dozen operating suites, and is loaded with nearly 5 tons of medicines. It has arrived, to write a new chapter of friendship between the two old neighbors.
This is the way help should be. No fanfare. No seeking for fame and attention.
The Philippine President Aquino III personally thanked China for its help. This is a good beginning of a new chapter for both governments and peoples. Let us keep it that way forever.
