And (to see) a heaven in a wild flower,
And (hold) eternity in an hour.
William Blake, born in 1757,was a son of a London hosier. He never went to school, picked up his education as well as he could.
At the age of 14,he was apprenticed to an engraver. After leaving him,he began to earn his living as an engraver of illustrations for various publishers, which showed him a great artist with a style of his own.But he was never prosperous in this business and remained poor all his life.
In 1782,he married Catharine Boucher,an illiterate girl.Blake taught her to read and to help him in engraving.Catharine proved an excellent wife, sympathizing with his work and sharing in it.The both lived a happy life for almost 45 years.
In the 18th century, the Blake couple was thought of as poor crazy people, but now we know they were good, honest and great.
The original books written, engraved and published by Blake himself are today among the treasures of English literature.
In 1827,Blake died in obscurity and poverty.
