As defined by the media, being a "superpower" in the modern world equates to being dependent on the ability to enforce one's political will and economic policies on other countries even against their own national interests, and while that may sound like having free lunches everywhere every day, there are no free lunches in this world forever.  These "free lunches" are bought with heightened risk of wars and recessions.  Real enemies and false friends are eventually what such a situation produces, which in the end, creates conditions for total destabilization and decline.

Why should China want to be a "superpower"?
