Detroit Goes Bankrupt, the Largest City to Do So in U.S.By MONICA DAVEY and MARY WILLIAMS WALSHPublished: July 18, 2013    63 Comments

DETROIT — Detroit, the cradle of America’s automobile industry and once the nation’s fourth-most-populous city, has filed for bankruptcy, an official said Thursday afternoon, the largest American city ever to take such a course.

You guys want to sell the city, all its museums and contents, parks and government buildings to China?

How much?

Let the dice fly high

Sorry, that joke has been done to death in Detroit after the "Hummer Sale".  As for the news, it is something for more than a few 'economically strong' Chinese cities to pay attention to, especially if the local government is spending money like there is worries.  Hukou not withstanding - the job dry up (like when foreign businesses leave for cheaper pastures) folks are going to leave in droves.  Lord knows, I was one of the 250,000+ to leave the Tri-Country area (Detroit + Wayne, Oakland, and Wayne Counties) between 2000 and 2010.

Main problem in China can be the "real estate bubble".

But when the s...omething hits the fan - and the real-estate enterprises would bancrupt, local Government would take the control and finish the projects.
Change for the shareholders, and for those who paid in advance.

Some funds from the others sectors would be transfered to absorb the initial impact of the crash.

In Detroit - there was no "safety cushion", as may be in China...

Main problem in China can be the "real estate bubble".

Even if, for what, what'd it help?
How would building more empty concrete into the landscape help anything but fake numbers?
Those chinese cities are alreadey over-leveraged, with no clear records on just how much bad debt it is in total,
and how much the central gov may have to guarantee for.
Safety cushion?
Keep dreaming then.

New Business is already developing, recently seen a programm on an urban detroit resident who farms on former inner city residential estate, supplying to farmer markets. (Started amid the lack of Grocery supply in the city)
