So how do you get in without x-raying any bags you have? By guard I mean the Bao An

Just go through, the guard has no legal authority to force you to scan your bag and cannot physically restrain you.

I accepted to have my bags scanned when it was the Expo because the government promised it was a temporary measure. Then temporary became permanent so I entered a state of resistance.

They do have the power to stop you entering the station due to bye laws, however I tend to ignore them if they try to stop me.

Same kind of thing happened to me when I first arrived in China. We were discussing with friends (all of them Chinese) and with my broken Chinese at the time I told them I like duck. Not duck meat, duck. They all laughed and I too once they explained what a duck is in slang.

They do in China as well, it is just that all traffic laws are ignored.

Ha Ha, China has NO traffic laws.    I have learned that the hard way a few times.

i've never seen a guard on the subway.....i use line 1...

There are guards in Xi'an, including electronic scanners.  You have to put all your bags, etc. through the scanner.  Secret:  go early.
