Littering in China is somewhat of a nationwide issue, and we’re all sure to notice even as soon as we get off the plane. The issue is surely something that drives most of us nuts, though what can we really do about it? Well, one American in Wuhan has consciously taken to the streets to clean up some of the city’s litter.

Mickey is a 67-year-old retired middle-school teacher from Washington DC who arrived in 2008 after meeting his current wife Mrs. Zong online. He spends some of his free time cleaning up the rubbish that is scattered around Wuhan’s Shahu Park. Mickey can often be seen around the park carrying a red bucket, which he claims can be filled fivefold in the space of an hour.

Mickey also works at an English training center in Wuhan, though every morning he finds time to head over to the park to do a bit of cleaning for the local community. He states that a specific 200sqm area of the park is his “responsibility”, and aside from cleaning up rubbish is also on hand to ensure that bikes are parked correctly and no pets enter the park. Reportedly, workers from the park expressed a desire to pay Mickey for his services, though the Good Samaritan refused.

This story has mainstream media attention recently......but of course a Lau Wei cleaning up a little area in a park for the good of all the local residents will not receive praise here....just another foreigner pushing people around with his own desires and needs.

Apparently he makes an effort to ban dogs from the area since the owners do not clean up the mess and stray dogs don't know how....He is well liked in his location and that is all the attention he needs.

It is good for the continued "opening up" of national media.

In the USA all this type of dirty work is done by illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America.
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

Just another oh-so-superior Yank telling the Chinese how to live and behave. What's next, lessons on road-rage or lectures on why we should all have guns?
