If the dog is killed quickly and relatively painless - I see no problem.
Meat like meat.
I tried few times, and it was "nothing special", just the meat.
Even when I'm from the European culture, where we regard the dogs as a pet and the "man's friends" - I have no problems to eat the dog meat.

This is only a cultural difference.

In Muslim countries - no pork.
In Brahminism/Hinduism - no beef.
In Judaism - no snakes.
...
etc.

so if in the traditional Chinese culture some dogs are just a meat - it is also OK.

Why somebody have to tell others that "this (our) culture is better and You have to implement it in Your country"?

______

In Guangdong I see a lot of dogs "for meat" (this is a breed like on the pictures), and many others as a pets.
No problem.

in Europe we eat the pigs, but some small (vietnamese pigs) are pets.
No problem. Same situation.
In Europe we eat the rabbits, but some rabbits are pets.
Also no problem.

You should apprise yourself how East Asians dispatch man's best friend. There is no "if the dog ge ...

What I say is: if the dogs are killed quick - I see no problem at all.
The same goes for every animal.
If the dogs suffers - it is not good, and I would feel much better knowing that it is changed.

Yes I heard about the "process" that You describe - but it was more about the Korea.
Maybe in China is similar? Here some locals should share their experience.
I've never seen in reality the process of killing a dog before cooking.
