It is perfectly understandable for the Taiwanese fisherman's family to want justice. It is totally reasonable for the Taiwan government to demand justice. And it is completely logical for the Philippines to apologize for the killing of the Taiwanese fisherman, because no matter what, killing is not an acceptable solution to any maritime dispute.
But, is it reasonable, logical or understandable for Taiwan to reject the Philippine apology and bar Filipinos from getting working visas, simply because it wants the Philippines to recognize Ma as the President of the Republic of China, to recognize the Republic of China as a sovereign state, and to sign a fishing rights treaty with Taiwan on the basis of a state-to-state relationship, when the Philippines has recognized the PRC as the sole sovereign government of China that includes Taiwan?
Should the death of the Taiwanese fisherman be used to serve the sinister purpose of splitting, not preserving, the sovereignty of China? Using the occasion of a foreign killing of a citizen to have a foreign country recognize Two China's is not defending its sovevereignty or loving China, but rather, doing China in, while pretending to defend its citizens. To inwardly divide China while outwardly defending one of its citizens is exactly what "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" means.
The correct solution is for Ma to call up Xi and say, "It is time we JOIN forces" rather than "Taiwan will never join forces with China (implying TaipeI was never and will never be a part of the same China that Beijing is). Using the occasion of a foreign attack to split the country into two is a far cry from being patriotic that Ma and company are painting themselves to be. It is in reality, a form of collaboration with the Japanese in splitting Taiwan from China using the mouth of the Philippine government.
This shameless infighting in front of a foreign country by Taipei must stop. It is ridiculous. The solution is straightforward. Taiwan and the Mainland should join forces in patrolling the South China Sea, instead of Taiwan fornicating with every foreign country to show it is not really married to China, which it is and will forever be.
