Japanese irridentists hellbent on stealing Diaoyudao from China are sailing close to these islands today, guarded by the Japanese Coast Guard.

Won't take much to start a conflagration.

Japan likes to play with fire, even with the fire of the gods.

China sent 8 marine surveillance ships to Diaoyudao and managed to force out the Japanese rightwing contingent despite the interference of the Japanese Coast Guard.

This is a first in Chinese history since the end of WWII, when China simply rode on the coattails of the US in accepting the surrendering Imperial Japanese Army on the Mainland and on Taiwan.

But the real test is yet to come, as the right-wing War Criminal Worshiping Japanese government officials are likely to redouble their efforts to prove that China has no jurisdiction over Diaoyudao.  This is going to get very interesting very soon.  The Japanese will be back again.

If China can prove, once and for all, that it can defend its sovereignty over Diaoyudao against Japanese occupation, then and only then will North Korea put any credence to the idea that China can, under certain circumstances, also guarantee its security against all threats.

But if China proves unable to defend its sovereignty over Dioayudao, whose status has been established beyond a shadow of a doubt by even Japanese scholars as belonging to China long before it was initially annexed by Imperial Japan in 1895, then all bets are off as to what North Korea will do to secure peace on the Korean peninsula.  In short, we can expect more threats and tantrums from North Korea, to warn off its perceived enemies, if China proves unprepared to defend Diaoyudao from Japanese occupation.

China is forced to earn her credentials in brokering any peace on the Korean peninsula.  China needs a decisive win over Diaoyudao to win the confidence of North Korea.  Until then, there will be no peace in East Asia.
