Where is it?

I understand there is a government policy frowning on this.

Why?

Chinese TV is dominated by the past.....

Why not the future?

Imagine the "Ideal Chinese Society" and put that in film.

One of my favorites is "Star Trek".

I can vision a Chinese captain and his crew.

American-Sulu

German-Spock (thats you Seneca)

Robert as the Doctor

(how much fun that would be)

Going out in the galaxy battling the evil capitalist empire.

Putting Chinese girls in uniform would be HOT!

But seriously....

China is now in the space age and have aspirations to travel the cosmos.

Young people need to be inspired and imaginations realized.

What better way than to have a TV show to reflect this?

Commissar UYA

Exactly, my opinion!
China's box office receipts is now US$3 billion, 2nd biggest in the world.
Add that with the diaspora oversea's Chinese, probably increase by a quarter extra!

The only SiFi movie I can recall is something called When the Atmosphere Disappeared, I remember watching it when I was quite young.

There is a magazine in China called Science Fiction Magazine. I used to read it all the time, very touching stories full of imaginations.

I don't know what happened to the Chinese movie but I hardly watch any, not because they are not good enough, haven't watched, not in the position to judge, but from the limited several ones I have watched, the forced emotions, broken logic and unconvincing justification of their creativity have after all impressed me a lot.  The Chinese famous historical complex was overemphasized.

The recent movie made by An Lee: Life of Pi, however is great!

I think UYA made a good point here. China should have great SIFI movies, or the Chinese could start with SIFI TV dramas or even graphic novels. That will be much better than the Time-travelling modern girls going back to Qing or Qin Dynasty and getting chased by several handsome princes...

I find it strange that China wants to be more inventive, instead of a "copy and paste" society.
and yet the government has made policies against "Sci-Fi".
The key to be inventive is imangination and openmindedness.
Not something China is reknowned for.
