Translation Contest Series NO 1

Dear members,

Thanks for your long support for our forum.  To encourage even more participation, the China Daily Forum now introduces to you an exciting translation contest series!

Format of the contest: Anyone who wishes to enter the competition is required to translate a short Chinese pictorial story into English. Click on the “I want to join” to join the activity and simply reply to the thread to post your entry.

Duration of the contest: This contest series will be a weekly one. Normally we post the story on Monday for translation and will announce the winner on the next Monday.

Panel of Judges: expatter, col, ratfink, loneacorn. We have invited a panel solely made up of native speakers or proficient English speakers to comment on every entry and select the winner of the contest.

Deadline for Entries: 10 am every Thursday.

工地夫妻的爱情

向和国今年40岁，刘春燕38岁，有一儿一女，都在家乡的重点高中读书。“就是希望孩子能好好读书，有个好前途。”刘春燕之前在家乡当幼教，由于工资低，今年跟丈夫一起到太原打工。

庞顺斌四十多岁，为人平和，话不多。郑娟性格较为外向，在工地上主要负责给水电安装的工友们做饭。他们有两个孩子，大儿子在重庆理工大学读书，小女儿在老家读高中。她希望儿子能继续读研究生，“读出书来，他们以后就不会再向我们一样受苦了。”

陈善光和杜俊今年都23岁了，在家乡结婚，有一个一岁多的孩子，今年春节后来到太原。陈善光比较腼腆，不怎么说话。

李教飞24岁了，云南红河人，18岁就来到太原打工，工作在不同的工地，一直呆到现在。现在，李教飞一家4口都在工地上。他的女儿只有11个月，出生后，母亲就来到工地上帮他看孩子。

Their Love

Xiang Heguo is 40 years old and Liu Chunyan is 38 years old. They have a son and a daughter, both of whom studying at a key senior middle school in their hometown. "What we wish is just our children can study hard and can have a good future." Liu Chunyan said. She used to be a pre-school teacher. She was not satisfied with the pay, so she quitted her job and came to Taiyuan with her husband this year.

Pang Shunbin is more than 40 years old now. He is quite easy-going and doesn't talk too much. He is responsible for cooking for other workers at the construction site. He and his wife have two children. Their eldest son is a student of Chongqing University of Technology and their youngest daugher is studying in a senior middle school in their hometown. "After they get their degree, they won't live a life as hard as we have now." Pang's wife hope her son can continue to pursue a postgraduate degree.
