An Qi who sneaked into the US from Fujian province 10 years ago finally got a green card and opened a Chinese restaurant. Until one hour before the second daughter was born, she was still working in the fried chicken store.  For years, hundreds of thousands of people from her hometown have crossed the ocean for the pursuit of their American dreams, but always with bitterness, fear and struggle.

An Qi was married to Danny, her fomer classmate in Fujian, who got the green card in 1999. They have 2 daughters now and run a Chinese fast food restaurant known as Great Wall in Manhattan, New York.

Almost all the waiters in An Qi's restaurant are illegal immigrants. Xiao Ke, An Qi's brother-in-law came to the US though Mexico. Led by the felon, he walked for three night and fell nearly unconscious to avoid being arrested by the US police. With the family support, he got a green card within a year.

Dongdong, a chef from Jinfeng, Changle, has been in the US for 4 years. His wife and daughter are still in China, With no legal identity, he couldn't go home. He works six days a week with $ 3000 of monthly salary but saves most of his salary to send home and repay the cost of illegal immigration.

An Qi takes several roles at the same time, cooking, packing and frying chicken. She is good at everything. As the restaurant owner, her only previlege is doing more.
