CHINA SHOULD NOT REGARD THE DPJ AS A PRO-CHINA PARTY AND DIPLOMACY WITH IT IS A WASTE OF TIME.

The DPJ has undergone several leadership and membership changes since its formation, and is now firmly under the control of the "NODA LDP FACTION", as his views are known to be representative of the right wing of the LDP within the DPJ.  A lot of mistaken ideas are being circulated in the Chinese media that China gets the best chance of getting Japan to cooperate on the Dioayu by dealing with the DPJ party.  This is untrue. The DPJ has become worse than the  LDP because the LDP at least has within in a pro-China minority that can object to the rigntwing majority's militarist agenda.  The DPJ although supposedly the pro-China party has a 100% rightwing agenda.  Efforts to reach out to the DPJ leaders are exercises in futiity.  There is no pro-China soul left in the DPJ, while a few may still exist in the LDP.

As such, it might be best for China to retake Diaoyu while the DPJ is in power, since it is almost 100% non-negotiable with China.

Once the DPJ falls from power, China can then negotiate with the 70% hostile LDP with greater chances of getting a satisfactory compromise.  With the DPJ, there is zero chance of reaching a reasonable compromise at all.  These are the hardest of the fhard right politicians in Japanese history.  Thus, dipomacy may not be the best solution to the standoff at this time.  Retaking of Diaoyu by Chinese fishermen and activists, with the protection of the Taiwanese coast guard, is still the best solution going forward.

WHY IS CHINA SO AFRAID RECENTLY?

Lau, is it possible that China realized its arms and munitions were a lot less in quantity and dependability than it assumed, and is doing catch up on the fly as we speak, and so is buying time with these meaningless negotiations with Japan about how China should behave than how Japan should withdraw?

Maybe, just maybe, it took to heart the warnings we have sounded about the hidden supply and logistics problems which surfaced only during the Battle of the Yellow Sea in which the Chinese navy was beaten despite having bigger and nominally better equipped battleships?  Maybe, something similar had happened, but was found early enough to avoid the same kind of disaster at sea?

China also made the wrong assumption in the past two years about the DPJ being a pro-China party.  It was, before it came to power.  After that, it was subverted by the rightwing elements within it, and is now a purely 100% rightwing party, worse than the LDP.  Maybe, China is hoping the Japanese election would get rid of these DPJ rightwing diehards?

If when you say "affraid" you mean asserting herself like a big bully in the area claiming all nearby seas that it can claim and indiscriminately killing Tibetans then yes... China is very affraid.

CHINA SHOULD NOT REGARD THE DPJ AS A PRO-CHINA PARTY AND DIPLOMACY WITH IT IS A WASTE OF TIME.

No country's sensible leadership in its right mind would place its own country's fate and destiny entirely in the hands of a political party in another country. To do that, it is not only plain and pure stupidity but is suicidal at all counts!
