What percentage of North Koreans own a car? Looks like that will be about 1%

There are so few cars ...

1% is being way too generous. 0.1% perhaps is closer to the truth. Though there are no official figures on vehicle production in North Korea estimates are at maximum 60,000 vehicles can be produced each year given the technology employed and so on. Many of those are buses and tractors, trucks and vehicles for export.

One insider I spoke with at Kookmin university put the total number of passenger sedans in North Korea at 20,000 to 22,000. That worked out at about 1 vehicle per 1000 population. Technically private ownership is illegal but there are ways and means if you are powerful enough and high enough in the system to warrant a vehicle.

The figures are probably similar to China in 1978 when I first visited. There were very few sedans on the road back then too, but there were more than in North Korea that is for sure.

Glad you find it informative

Probably the most informative thing I can show about North Korea is the NASA night image. It speaks volumes about the development of the country.

We will never know what a united Korea could have been ...........

The Cold War politics of those with agendas took over and denied the Korean people their rightful destiny  ............

One thing is sure is that in 1953 North Korea was a broken devastated landscape where there was nothing left except dirt and 5 million people were dead  ...........

In 1953 Syngman Rhee the S.Korea US puppet president refused to sign the peace and that is where we are today  ...........

The US could easily have forced that signature but didn't, and now the US profits from massive arms sales to S. Korea, Japan and Taiwan because of the 'bogey-man'  ...........

It has never been about the people of Korea, but rather geopolitical advantage  ...........

May those warmongers rot in hell  .............
