The story happened last year if you still remember.
This guy Liu Peiwen(刘培温), 29-year-old, walked  from his hometown of Anyang, Henan Province to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province  in order to propose to his girlfriend. The distance is about 1,800 kilometers overland from Anyang to Guangzhou. But he was rejected after he got there by a message, "Sorry, I didn't think you would take my joke so seriously. My parents are here to take me home. Forget about me, I'll pay you back next life if there's one. "

But people online say the result would be different if he were wealthy. Do you agree?

Liu Peiwen(刘培温), 29-year-old, walked  from his hometown of Anyang, Henan Province to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province  in order to propose to his girlfriend. The distance is about 1,800 kilometers overland from Anyang to Guangzhou.
She had said that she would only marry him if he took the words of the Scottish band's 1988 hit single 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' literally, according to Pakistan's The Nation.

The chorus includes the words: "I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more/ To be the man who walks 1,000 miles to fall down at your door."

Liu said: "The distance from here to her hometown in the Guangdong province, in southeastern China, is 1,600 kilometers - which is exactly 1,000 miles.

He carried  a small hand-made flag that read “Valiantly, full of mettle, setting out to visit my wife’s mother”(雄赳赳,气昂昂,去见丈母娘). “Life is short,” he said, “and for love, there’s no challenge too great.”

it took Liu 35 days to complete the journey.

But the ending was not so sweet. She didn't show up on the spot they agreed.  When he called, her parent answered that she had found a suitable boyfriend whose "conditions" were good. Later he recieved a message from her, "Sorry, I didn't think you would take my joke so seriously. My parents are here to take me home. Forget about me, I'll pay you back next life if there's one. " and then she powered off.

He can count his blessings she did the right thing by leaving with her parents in lieu of sticking around out of guilt.

Wonder if he learn a lesson, or not. Maybe he thinks if only he had walked 3,600 kilometers things would had been different. And guess they would had been; feet more sore.
