Not always inventing something  for the entire humanity’s benefit also means that it will be beneficial for you. The life of some great people, whose inventions we are using today, ended as a result of their work. Here are 10 inventors who were killed by their own inventions:

1. The owner of the company that produces the Segway died while riding one (2010)

Jimi Heselden is not , strictly speaking , the inventor of the product, but the fact that he owns the company that produces the segways and was killed while he was riding one, is too ironic not to be mentioned on this list!

2. The creator of Babes, decapitated (1927)

Babes was a racing car, one of the fastest which existed in the world, in the 1920s. Its creator was racing pilot John Godfrey Parry-Thomas, whose dream always had been that of breaking the speed record. Thus, he invented Babes, a modified racing car, to help him achieve this goal. He managed indeed to break the speed record, but Babes killed him soon after, when one of the exposed chains linking the wheels to the engine suddenly broke and flew directly into his neck, decapitating the poor man.

5. Harry Houdini’s magic could not save him (1926)

The death of this famous magician was not caused, as you might think specifically by one of his magic acts, but rather, had a tragic connection to it. Apparently, Houdini accepted to demonstrate his abnormal strength and faced numerous blows in the abdomen, as he did many time before, with no consequence to his health. This time however, his appendicitis, which was inflamed, could not handle the pressure and quickly progressed into peritonitis, killing him.
