While ranking the most romantic movies of all time, you cannot stop yourself from noticing how much things change since the age of cast kisses and beautiful stories that almost always ended up with the man passionately embracing his sweetheart. Today relationships are more unconventional, endings may be unexpected and undesired, while the two main characters may not be the ideal man and the perfect woman, but quite the opposite. The movies changed with their audience and love changed with generations. While I have no idea if viewers from back then like, or would like the love stories of our times, we sure love classics!  The IMDb top 10 most romantic movies of all time is an undeniable proof:

1. Before Sunrise (1995)

This is the beautiful story of a man (Jesse) and a woman(Celine) who meet in a train going from Budapest to Vienna. The two have a strong connection since the first moment together and the man (Ethan Hawke) asks the beautiful stranger (Julie Delpy) to spend a day with him in Vienna. She accepts and the two begin a one day adventure that will transform into love. However, the next day, each one has to go on his way. What will happen now with their love?

One of the most romantic movies ever, it tells the beautiful story of a young Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) who falls in love with Viola Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow) at the right time: with no money and no inspiration, Shakespeare was in need of a muse and Viola, a vision of perfection, will inspire him to create one of his most famous plays: Twelfth Night.

5. The Philadelphia Story (1940)

Even though the recent years have seen some very romantic movies, the classics are still world favorites, when it comes to love stories.  Back then, people really knew how to love, without a doubt. The two main characters are part of the fashionable society of Philadelphia. They marry without thinking twice, after a short, passionate relationship and get a divorce soon after. 7. Bright Star (2009)

The difference between classic movies and contemporary ones could not be more evident than in the case of romantic films: the whole idea of love seems to have changed since those times, when the main character rarely died at the end. The love story between John Keats and Fanny Brawne is retold in this drama, starring Abbie Cornish and Ben Whishaw. The very young Fanny and John are falling deeply in love with each other, despite the great differences between them. However, their relationship ends tragically with the death of  only 25 year old John.
