Fuguang (Buddha's Aureola) Mountain is located at the north-east area of Dashu Township, Kaohsiung County, Taiwan Province. It is known as the "Buddhist Capital in south Taiwan". Its founder, Great Master Xing Yun, who was born in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, constructed Fuguang Mountain in Kaohsiung County in 1967.
Entering Dashu Township, one can see from afar a golden reception Buddha, 40 meter odd in height, standing on the Mountain. This is the most outstanding symbol of Fuguang Mountain. The large reception Buddha statue lowered down his left hand in a posture of welcoming, raised right hand up to shoulder with the hollow of palm toward ahead and fingers upward, expressing "Welcome to Paradise". Every time when the Buddha statue, guilt in gold wholly, reflects with morning sunshine and evening glow, shining with boundless radiance of brilliance. Round the stand underneath the statue, there stand in circle small Buddha statues of same appearance and posture with that of the large one. There also stand Buddha statues bigger than human size in receiving posture on both sides from the Fengsheng Pond (Pond of Freeing Captive Fishes) at the mountain foot up to the front of the large Buddha statue. According to the statistics, there are 480 such statues in total which are guilt in gold wholly, imposing and magnificent. Reaching there, one would feel as if he had entered into a country of Buddhas.
Behind the reception Buddha stand the temple group buildings of Fuguang Mountain. The Precious Hall of the Great Hero is the center of other halls, inside which there are three large Buddha statues of about 7 meters. The middle statue is the religious master of the whirling would, Sakyamuni; the right one is the religious master of the Western World of Ultimate Bliss, Mitreya; and the left one is the religious master of the Eastern Glazed World, Pharmacist Buddha, all of whom are guilt in gold wholly and sit cross-legged on lotus. On the four walls of the Hall 14600 Buddhist niches were built with each one having a small Buddha statue inside and a small lamp in front. The 14600 ever-burning burning lamps reflect the three large Buddha statues resplendent and magnificent. On the right side of the Precious Hall of the Great Hero is the Hall of Great Mercy, 20 meters in height. Inside which there is a 7 meters high standing statue, Avalokitesvara (Goddess of Mercy) holding a holy vase at hand. On the four walls of this Hall, ten thousand niches were built with each one having a small Avalokitesvara statue inside. On the opposite side of the Hall of Great Mercy is the Hall of Great Wisdom, inside which the statue of Budhisattva of Wisdom is enshrined. It is said that he lectured Buddhism to masses, hence the title "Great Wisdom". In Fuguang Mountain, there are two secluded buildings, the "Exhibition Hall of Buddhist Relics' and the "Cave of Pure Land", with the latter being famous.
