Variations of the following occur state by state

They will put in jail in the US if you are caught driving drunk, YES!

You will remain there until you become sober and a Magistrate can hear what the circumstances of your drunkenness was -- usually a breathalyzer test to indicate the severity, most often this happens the very next morning, but if it was over the week-end when the Court is not in session, you will remain in jail until Monday morning when the Magistrate hears your case.

The Magistrate will either assign a fine and a penalty, including the removal of your license and assigning you to attend a program for a long period of time which you must attend and learn about the dangers of driving drunk in great detail and where you will be tested for blood alcohol levels continuously for some time.

If you repeat the crime a second time, the fine and some extra jail time may be included along with a much longer period of probation and course rehabilitation, If a third time you are caught you will serve an extended period of time in prison.
