It's an well-known phenomenon in China.

Factories sell one medicine at a far low price X.
Consumers buy the medicine at a far high price Y.
Y is tens of times of X.

+++++++++++
Now the same thing is taking place in food industry.

Farmers sell the vegetable at a far low price.
e.g. Chinese farmers of my city sell cabbage at RMB 0.02/Kg, or $0.003/Kg
Consumers buy the vegetable at a far high price.
e.g. Today, the price of cabbage in the supermarkets of my city is RMB 0.6/Kg, or $0.1/Kg.

There are usually 3 different prices for the same cabbage but through different production in Chinese supermarkets.
One is RMB 0.6/Kg.
2 branded "green prodction" is RMB 2/Kg or more
3 branded "famous green production" is RMB ....much expensive.

Many news reports in Chinese media asked the same question....

Farmers sell cabbage at RMB 0.08.
City people buy cabbage at RMB 0.8.

It took about half an hour to drive from the farmlands (Jinan surban area) to the major markets in downtown area (Jinan city center).

Why is there tens times of difference?

Some of news report are wandering if governments at all levels collect too much Fee and tax in the circulation, especially the type of Fee?

In the Shanghai truck drivers' protest, the drivers also demand to decrease the type of FEE and taxes.

How much Fee are collected by governments at all levels?

Who knows?

Central government knows?

or any government? or any department of any government?

Why need government collect so much type of Fee?

Because taxes are not enough? or not?

How much Fee???

The authorities in Shanghai, China's busiest port city, have cut fees in an attempt to end protests by truck drivers.

Steps by the government will include "lowering standard fees and removing non-standard fees", according to an unidentified spokesperson for the Shanghai city government quoted by Xinhua news agency.
