The media, and associations and organizations, the journalists, the independent writers
type 1: They get 100% financial supports from government.
such as every provincial and city daily newspaper and their journalists, such as Chinese writers' association and its memebers, etc. Many news in these media are forged in closed doors and some of them are fake. But few of readers care about true or false. Actually the readers care about right or wrong.
Usually, Most of their readers are government officials.
type 2: Most of them get part of financial supports from government and part of them from commericial revenue.
such as every city evening and morning newspaper and their journalists, such as the writers not in the Chinese writers' association, such as many internet media.
Most of their readers are the whole Chinese.
++++++++++
Actually Most of media, both type 1 and type 2, are at least partly owned by government.

Type 1 is exactly like the previous media before Deng's reform. We can see the similiar media in the former Soviet Union and North Korea. Type 2 is the products of Deng's reform. We can view it as a hybrid of western media and the previous Chinese media of Mao's era. Many type 1 and type 2 media are usually owned by one government-own enterprise.

In China the government officials usually move up a higher position till retired. Usually, the moving up is decided by higher level government officials and are judged by GDP. So ordinary Chinese opinion is a matter of no consequence.
In Taiwan, the moving up is decided by the votes. Of course these government officials have to make many promises before election. They have to survive from fierece competition.
Many Chinese view Chinese reports as a matter of media itself. Chinese media most time care about government officials (politicans) rather than Chinese people. However, Many western media have to report sth in the way of most local people like and have to survive from the fierece commercial market competitions. Sometimes, they mock government officials (politicians).
Many Chinese complained that the western media don't respect China. They think it's a matter of media itself. Probably not. It's because the mainstream of western society like such way of reports. Most western people compare Chinese one with their individual freedom, with their human rights. Maybe Chinese don't deserve such rights, but they enjoy. And they used to judge sth in their way.
Supposed Chinese are the major customs of these western media, of course they would report things in Chinese way. It's a game of market economy.
Right or not????
