Fox News is nothing more than Xinhua with American characteristics. It's funny that you criticize the news programming closest to your ideal.

Of course censorship is good.

Good, for example, for all those who just deserve to be judged for having send tank against young students 21 years ago.

I totally agree with you.

Can we decide on a definition of censorship here?

Censorship means withholding truth.

What are you guys talking about when you say censorship?

the worse possible model is news for profits.

although not perfect, especially from China's point of view...........state owned media in the west like BBC and PBS is at least more responsible, m ...

PBS is NOT state-owned.  It's a PUBLIC broadcasting system and it's paid for by people sending in contributions.  I do agree that profit news models are a problem - look at what happened to russia and eastern european countries.  Free press is what they wanted more than anything, but now much of their press reads more like tabloids.   The old joke was 'there is no news in Pravda and no truth in Izvestiya' .  Instead of replacing state-controlled news media with a quality free press - they quickly learned that they had to sell their papers and sensationalism sells where truth and quality reporting can be boring.  How sad for them!  Look at pravda these days.
