As the result of china’s decades’ family plan emerging, the amount of Chinese high school students dips sharply, which will make some university face the shortage of new student enrolling.

In the past years, China is endeavoring to improve educational level of whole nation. So it requires the state-owned universities to improve their enrolling rate. As a result, the university has to expand its scale in term of building more teaching rooms and dorm.
But as the amount of  new born children sharply decline, in the future the school age students will be  much less than today.

So for those universities which have invest so much capital to expand and also has less famous reputation, they will face quite serious financial deficit.

This year, the amount of students who are preparing the university entrance exam is 20% less than the last year’s figure.

This is the consequence of the blindly expanding. They deserve it!

If it is the case that the Univerisites will fail solely because of falling birthrates it is very sad. However; I do think there is a silver lining in the story.

As Tamson has noted expanding Universities often do so at the cost of quality education. With the decrease in revenue smart Universities will demand higher standards from the students remaining meaning that rather than being a revolving door producing worthless degrees each University must produce quality graduates or die.
It is just like a garden left to go wild, the fruit it produces is smaller and hard to find. A well manicured and tended garden is much more successful.

Falling enrolment rates in China have nothing to do with falling birth rates. The percentage of Chinese pursuing tertiary education is still incomparably lower than the relevant figures in any deve ...

as the number of  students of higer education-age drop sharply,  these students will have more opportunities to enter the universities with good educational quality. consequently, some unversity which has less advantages will face the shortage of students.
the other point is like what you say.  Own a university degree can't guarantee a bright future, so  many students from poor family may not choose the unversity. the 4 years' studying will cost much money, which will leave them a burden of debt.
