Here is an official Japanese version of the arrest.

  1. Dumpling suspect "dissatisfied with his company"

  2. Chinese investigators say a suspect in the poisoning of frozen dumplings that sickened people in Japan 2 years ago has confessed to mixing insecticide into food products because he was dissatisfied with his company.

  3. Officials from the Ministry of Public Security spoke to reporters, including Japanese media crews, on Sunday to explain about its investigation. It was the first official account of the case since the suspect's arrest was reported on Friday.

  4. Xinhua news agency reported on Friday that Chinese police had detained Lu Yueting, a 36-year-old former temporary employee at a plant of Tianyang Food in Hebei Province.

  5. The incidents came to light in Japan in January 2008, when 10 people showed symptoms of poisoning after eating dumplings made by the company. Traces of the insecticide methamidophos were later found inside packages of the dumplings.

  6. The director of the Chinese ministry's Crimes Investigation Bureau, Du Hangwei, told reporters that the suspect had been constantly dissatisfied with his pay and work environment. He said the suspect thought of taking revenge against the employer when it did not pay a bonus to his wife, who also worked at Tianyang Food and took a childbirth leave.

  7. Du said the suspect confessed to adding the insecticide to dumplings, using syringes, at the plant's freezer in October 2007.

  8. He denied the existence of a conspiracy and stated that the crime was committed by the suspect alone. Du said the crime was carried out for personal motives, and was not targeted against any Japanese firm.

  9. NHK's correspondent says Chinese authorities appear to be seeking to improve relations with Japan by holding the first news conference with Japanese media in about 2 years to explain about the investigation

The case was reported in today's Sunday editions of most print media in Japan but in a very conciliatory tone.

And no surprise that the hordes of ranters and ravers who shout freaks! liars! China bashers! Where is our compensation? Where is our apology? ....... are now hiding and refusing to show their face on this thread.

These same guys who insisted Japan needed to apologize - where is their pride? Why don't they apologize now?
