Considering the enormous wealth the British looted from India, I believe India could have been the richest      country in the world today, if there was no British rule. And being the richest its useless to even ask if India would have the roads and railways today without the British rule.

Amongst the colonising nations, England was quite unique in that it tried to build infrastructure. On the other hand, France, Holland, Spain and Portugal had more of an ethic of just taking. In some ways, I think the English were inspired by the Romans who conquered them and gave them their first taste of an ordered society.

From an economic perspective, most of the English colonies did well under English rein. India included.

Yes, in fact the whole world would be much more advanced, maybe by as much as 500 years or so.

We would all probably be flying around in our personalised hoverjets.

But unfortunately, the British smashed India back to the stone age.

Look at the thread: What the British did to India.
I fact you have just reminded me to post some more stuff on it.
