Whereas there were millions who died from hunger while ungrateful HK thrived.

HK's economy took off, or in your words, thrived in the early 80s, when the Mainland changed tack regarding development... Is it merely a coincidence? Everyone in his or her right mind would say no without hesitation...
Believe it or not, it's true.

I don't know where you got your 'millions' from; perhaps from the Western media?

To assist hk economy is a better word. Meaning to work together with hk government on economic policies. Beijing also need to start bringing in at least 50% hk citizens into mainland China to ease congestion and over population on the island and introduce actions to bring down property prices. Middle class and low income group needs subsidies and free government supports.

If you knew anything at all you would know that it is universally accepted that millions of Chinese people died from hunger due to food shortages and other factors in 1960's. This may be a period of history which the mainland wishes not to recall, given that its closed door policy of the time meant that it refused to seek aid
from abroad.

"In 1960 or so when many Chinese ordinary people" This was posted previously by SEARU which I discussed further. Obviously it refers to a period two decades earlier than in your own response. This would make it something on a non-coincidence that the mainland introduced its open door policy in the early 1980's many years after HK was an international city with a thriving economy.
