In a video that has gone viral on social media, the driver of the Porsche, a woman surnamed Li, is seen berating the driver of the car she hit after making an illegal turn in Chongqing's Yubei District. She then slaps the driver across the face, and he slaps her back.
A local traffic police officer arrived at the scene, fining Li 200 yuan (about 29 US dollars) for her illegal turn and 50 yuan for driving in high heels and a hat. She also had two penalty points added to her license.
After the video of the incident was shared online, videos emerged showing Li arguing with other drivers. According to a report by Beijing Daily News, Li has boasted about racing her car through Yubei District, saying that she often runs red lights, claiming that she can clear traffic offenses with a phone call. In response, an employee of the Yubei District Public Security Bureau Traffic Patrol said in an interview, "Li’s claim that she can have electronic police records deleted with a phone call is nonsense." Since the Porsche was transferred into Li's name in 2016, "There have been a total of 29 traffic violations recorded, including seven in 2019," said the police.
After the story spread online and news emerged that Li's husband was the commanding officer of a local police station, on Thursday the Chongqing Public Security Bureau issued a statement calling on Yubei District to set up a special team to investigate the matter.
